The annual Tompkins Square Park Halloween Dog Parade, which celebrated it’s 26th year of existence this October, brought hundred of dogs and loyal humans to the park to show off their Halloween’s best. A week before Halloween 2016, a reported 6,000 New Yorkers braved the gloomy weather to catch a glimpse of New York’s best in show. Furry friends from near and far traveled to the Tompkins Square Park in hopes of winning the coveted honor of Best In Show, but the real winners were everyone who got to lay eyes on the hundreds of amazing, spooky, silly and adorable dog costumes.
This Presidential Candidog was one of the many canines with a costume referencing the spookiest thing of all, the 2016 presidential election. Barking his campaign slogan, “Make America Cute Again”, Eli and his owner, were elected as the presidential nominee for the Super Cute Costume Party. Passerbys could not stop staring as this costume, proving Eli really knows how to grab ’em by the… leash.
Gotta Fetch ‘Em All
Jazz and his owner perfected the ancient art of the couples costumes. This Ash and Pikachu duo evoked a nostalgic reaction for many spectators. “People have been singing the theme song at us all day. They keep joking that we want to be the very best…in show,” said his owner. All day the little Pikachu attracted nothing but ooh’s and aww’s. What can he say? He’s got to catch ’em all.
The Dog Formally Known As Prince
In tribute to the late artist, this furry friend partied like it was 1999 rocking his classic Prince costume. His owner, self-described as Prince’s number one fan, has been dressing Cooper as Prince for the past 5 Halloweens. “He’s Prince every year, but this year it’s so much more meaningful. I’ve had people come up to me all day and tell me how much Cooper’s costume means to them,” she said.
A Dog Disguised As A Dog
Pup-ception! Rory and his owner blew minds at the parade with the silly and meta Dog costume. His two head and two tails jam-packed onto one sweet little body satisfied the universal urge for a dog that’s just more dog. “That’s right man! Be yourself!” yelled a random passerby upon seeing Rory costume.
Stella and her owner’s amazing Run-DMC costumes made parade goers want to walk their way. If the gold chains weren’t enough, their ability to rap the entirety of Run DMC’s top hits let the crowds know they were there to shine! “Go big or go home, right?” said the Boston Terrier’s owner.
Eleven from Stranger Things
The popularity of Netflix’s Stranger Things meant the strangest thing would be not seeing a fantastic Eleven costume. Edgar and his owner, fans of the show, took a break from binge watching to show off this killer costume. “He’s just like Eleven! He loves waffles,” joked Edgar’s owner.
